The owner, Lawrence King, was a graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy known as Kings Point. On graduating he went to sea on merchant ships and during this time he was first assistant engineer on the world's first nuclear merchant ship, the N/S Savannah. The training took place in Lynchburg, VA, where the designer of the nuclear plant was located: Babcock & Wilcox. Many years and several jobs later he accepted an engineering position with Babcock & Wilcox and relocated to Lynchburg. Soon after, Larry felt landlocked and heard about a body of water called Smith Mountain Lake. With no particular destination, he came across a deserted piece of land that had a small building on it and two boat ramps. He located the owner, Jimmy Saunders, and gave him a deposit settling on a price and final payment.
With his sons and a friends help, they built the original docks out of oak. With the exception of six slips, our boat slips are all floating to accomodate changes in Smith Mountain Lake's water level. Our latest docks are constructed of uniform welded steel covered with treated lumber and poly bumpers for protection. We have renovated the dump station and constructed a bath house.
All slip rentals are yearly. We have the most reasonable prices at Smith Mountain Lake. We have a boat dock that provides individual water for each slip and a 30 amp power supply. Prices range from $900 to $1100 per year.
